In part 3 of our series on houselessness in Reno, we are in conversation with Monica DuPea. Monica is the founder and executive director of NYEP, the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project.
NYEP’s core initiative is the Community Living Program, which provides houseless young women ages 18-24 with housing, mentorship, and structure – essentially with the support and guidance of a nurturing home. Monica is currently working to build low-income housing through Truckee Meadows Housing Solutions, an innovative non-profit that strives to bridge the gap between developers, businesses, contractors, and community service providers, getting ‘all hands on deck’ to tackle Reno’s affordable housing crisis.
