On today’s Soft Power Radio we are in conversation with Mary Gilbert, director of the Living Program at RISE, the Reno Initiative for Shelter and Equality. The Living Room Program, which provides people in need with low-barrier temporary housing, will have to shut down due to the exorbitant rent of the units they sponsor. We talk with Mary about the many obstacles before us as we grapple with a deepening housing crisis – what do we need to change about how we think and what we are willing to do if we intend to actually confront the economic and cultural barriers to positive community growth? As tent encampments around the city are swept and bulldozed away, we are unable to provide a real answer to the question, where are people supposed to go? To find out more about RISE, donate and get involved, HERE
